The Area We Cover in and Around Enfield

More About The Local Area

Here’s What You Need to Know About Living In Enfield

London Borough of Enfield

The population of Enfield is younger than average, better educated than average and made up of proportionately more students than average. Much of this is likely to be down to the presence of three University of Middlesex campuses in the borough.

Although there are areas of relative wealth, Enfield is also home to some of 10% most deprived in England, mainly in the south and east of the borough. These areas also suffer from poor housing and overcrowding as a result of council housing stock which is below the Decent Homes Standard.

As a result, average property values in Enfield fall well below much of the rest of London. In fact, over the past 12 months the average value of a property in Enfield was just over £287,000.

The area also has a wide stock of affordable property, most notably the Alma Road Estate, which is undergoing regeneration of its four 23-storey tower blocks.

And in ethnically diverse Edmonton, which comes under Enfield Borough Council, regeneration of the area has seen the building of a new health centre, leisure complex, bus station and affordable housing.

Local Schools in Enfield

Enfield’s schools do, however, offer a good standard of education. Local primary schools judged outstanding by the Ofsted government education watchdog are St Andrew’s C of E in Churchbury Lane and St George’s RC in Gordon Road. The following are judged good: George Spicer in Southbury Road, Case Side in Trinity Street, St Michael’s C of E in Brigadier Hill, and Lavender in Lavender Road.

Both the boys’ and girls’ comprehensives in Enfield Town, Enfield Grammar (boys ages 11 to 18) and Enfield County (girls ages 11 to 18) get excellent results at GCSE. The two co-educational comprehensives, Chace (ages 11 to 18) and Kingsmead (ages 11 to 18) in Southbury Road are both popular, while Dame Alice Owen’s School in Potters Bar gets good results and is judged outstanding by Ofsted.

Good transport links

Enfield also offers commuters good transport links. It sits close to the M25 and Enfield Town and Bush Hill Park stations have trains to Liverpool Street, while Enfield Chase station has trains to Moorgate, with some commuters changing to the Tube at Finsbury Park. All stations are in Zone 5.

A night bus also provides a route back from central London.
